Life, Death, Living, and Purpose
August 26th, 2006Lately I’ve been thinking about the brevity of life and “time”. We only have so much time to live in our earthly bodies, and then we’re out of here. I don’t fear death; I see it as an important step towards spiritual actualization. I’m not trying to sound somber, but it is something that exists and something we all must face. I don’t want to focus on that right now; instead I want to focus on what we can do before we get to that point.
Each of us has a set time to live, so let’s make sure that we live life to the fullest and accomplish as many goals as we possibly can. When we die, we’re remembered for two things.
We are remembered for:
1) The problems we solve.
2) The problems we create.
And that’s pretty much it. If you died right now, what would you be remembered for?
So how do you make the best of what time you have left? I think it boils down to a statment that has been on my mind now for a few weeks.
You can do anything you want, but you can’t do everything you want.
Sounds simple, but it’s true. Too many of us (me included) try to be a jack of all trades but a master of none. Focus is a laser that controls our outcomes. If we’re involved in too many things, it’s extremely difficult to accomplish anything.
I’m not suggesting you don’t follow your dreams. Dreams are all we have, really. I’m just suggesting that you spend some time finding your purpose and determine if what you’re doing right now lines up with that purpose. Also never forget that time is more important than money.
Last night I found myself paying extra for something at the store just so I could get home and not have to go to a different store. Dr. Wayne Dyer talks about this concept a lot. He said that the day he grew the most was when he quit expecting to always “get a deal.” I’m still working on that one!
This article has been a little scattered I know, but remember this one thing. Birth is the beginning of human life and death is the realization of spirit life. Don’t fear either. Embrace the day and tighten your focus as you live your purpose.

I liked this. It was really good. Quality in our priorities is important indeed. Purpose brings it all together. Isn’t it Gandalf who talks about “what we do with the time we are given”? That line is one which strikes a chord in me every time. You have a good outlook and head on your shoulders. God bless, Mike.

It’s true. We all need to zero in on what we are called to do- our dreams and talents. Something we all need to do, including myself. Good post. I like how you integrated paying extra at the store last night.
