How To Enjoy Your Life
October 9th, 2006I just wanted to write a short entry today about enjoying the little things in life. Sometimes we all get caught up in working and being busy that we don’t stop and take time to “smell the roses.” We live a world today where speed, efficiency, and added value are all the rage.
I don’t think these things are bad, I just think that sometimes we get so caught up in our own affairs that we might not stop to think that this is the only life we have. I mean, this is really it. We will live out the rest of the time we have left here on earth and then go on to the hereafter.
I read a quote somewhere that said something to the effect that
Nobody says on their deathbed, I wish I spent more time at the office.
Recently I had a small awakening regarding how much time I spend working vs how much time I spend enjoying life. I realized that I could work 18 hours a day for the next 10 years and still have more work to do! I am that busy, and I like it. I like having responsibility and creating ways to help people better themselves.
At the same time, I also need to enjoy myself some. That is why the past couple of days I have started setting time aside for me to do what I want. So far, this has meant putting work aside and getting together with some close friends and watching the hit tv series Lost.
I must admit that I never saw an episode before, so I was about 49 episodes behind. As of last night, I am through 17 episodes! And here is the craziest part -
I find that by watching Lost, I tend to want to work more and get more done during my normal work hours. I think by taking some time off each day I am actually being more productive than I was when I’d lock myself away for days at a time. I find that writing becomes easier and projects seem to get done faster. So, all I can say to you is enjoy yourself!
Set aside time each day, I’d say at least an hour or more and do whatever it is you feel like doing. If you have a major project you’re working on, you’re imagination will enjoy the change of scenery. You can only accomplish so much staring at a computer screen!
I know this isn’t my normal entry style, but I felt I needed to share this. And if you are looking for something to do…I highly recommend you start watching Lost! Just make sure you start from the beginning, otherwise you will have no idea what is going on, trust me. ![]()

“I just think that sometimes we get so caught up in our own affairs that we might not stop to think that this is the only life we have.”
It’s cool, because this week I realized the same thing. Being busier with this part of school, I had the best and most productive time writing when I put it down and watched Lord of the Rings with my sister…the change gave me some inspiration and a refreshed approach to figure out something with the plot and continue beyond when I went back to it. Another nice time was hanging out with a friend and listening to new ,music I wanted to play for her. Lost sounds really cool…and so is the fact you’re just enjoying time with your friends.
So true.
