The Pursuit of Happyness…The Story of Chris Gardener
December 20th, 2006Hi There!
I am feeling very refreshed after my mini-vacation the last couple of days. I went to Orlando and witnessed Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas. It was a blast and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Christmas and Mickey Mouse!
I got back last evening and spent today “recovering” from my trip. In the afternoon I took a little break and went and saw The Pursuit of Happyness. For those of you who don’t know what it’s about, I’ll tell you.
It’s a movie based on the true life story of Chris Gardener, a once homeless man turned multi-millioniare. Chris Gardener is played by Will Smith and Will Smith’s real life son plays Chris Gardener’s son in the movie.
I won’t spoil the details of The Pursuit of Happyness, but I will say this. The story teaches many lessons about what it takes to be a success. Chris Gardener had every excuse in the world to give up, quit, or not even try.
Everyday we are given “ways out”. We are constantly faced with the decision to continue on or give up. Sometimes we make wrong choices and are left to deal with those consequences, but that’s ok. That is how we learn and grow.
Chris Gardener was homeless, broke, jobless, and carless…he had every right to just sit back and complain about his situation. Instead he focused on what he did have…intelligence and dedication. He used those two assets to work his way up the stock broker world and….
I’ll stop there and let you watch the movie yourself. But, if you’re out there right now and using excuses, don’t do it. It won’t help you in any way. The people who succeeed do so in spite of their circumstances, not because of them.
Find your niche in life and never quit learning. You are capable of more than you ever thought possible.
Now, go to the theater and watch The Pursuit of Happyness. The story of Chris Gardener is truly inspirational and life changing.

Sounds like a nice break. =)
“The people who succeeed do so in spite of their circumstances, not because of them.” is a quotable quote…I’m going to save it.
I was just looking at the column of categorized articles on here and realized how much quality there really is on this site. Keep it up. You are in a good niche.

The movie sounds excellent. Two solid examples of mindset and belief. Chris Gardener and Will Smith. I dig this entry.
Merry Christmas

Have seen the movie and it has made a lasting impression on me. Am so inspired by his determination to achieve his goal when everything else was against him.Throughout everything he always remained such a likeable person and continued to take on whatever was asked of him without appearing to hold resentment or bad feelings towards people who seemed to make things harder for him. He just moved on!

I am from South Africa and last night watched the movie. It was difficult to watch because it really hits home. The bible says ‘ without a vision the people perish ‘,i guess the lesson learned was every single that matter and hardwork and determination pays off.
I hope Will Smith wins and oscar.

Hello, I am writing to comment on this movie in particular because it was touching to see such an extrodinary man play this role in which he had to cope with taking care of his son and having no money to survive but now he is one of the most well known person in the world he told his story to show that anyone from any standers can achieve magnificent things so if your out there and havent seen this movie trust me youll never want to leave im sur it will recieve an OSCAR. A true inspiration and people who achieve can succeed and as Will Smith says “Do not let anyone say u cant do something period”

I was truely inspired by Chris Gardener. It has changed my life. I believe that his commitment to his son and his personal drive are inspirations to any person. It truely makes you think about the direction that you are heading in life and the things that you place value in.

I like Will Smith’s (Actor) movies. I happened to watch this movie on TV on a Friday night (Ahh…it’s dawn of weekend again…) pre-planned in my mind to watch his movie (thought ‘Action movie…’). However, I’ve just made it before 15 minutes of the schedule of this movie (I didn’t know the Title of this movie until I watched it…) I refreshed my body from day long work and stress…. However, I started watching the movie from start and my loving Wife and Kid (aged 6 Yrs) joined me watching the movie from start. As we watched every scene of the movie…..we were involved in the characters of Chris Gardner Sr. and Christ Gardner Jr. (my son and I)…. We forgot the time and watched the movie till the end. Ofcourse, I’ve cried (with tears down), my wife visualizing the character of Will Smith (Chris Gardner) and my son seriously accompanying us both….(he never watches movies beyond his age and maturity….). He too started attracted and cried watching the movie….astonishing!! It was really an inspiring real life story (I didn’t know it was a real life story rather thought it was a reel story until my son asked me after watching the movie to check it in ‘google’ to watch Chris Gardner and his son’s images) until I and my family read the real story in Gooogle search……..IT IS AWESOME……….An inspirational true story indeed…..you know why I say this…..I’ve seen my six year old son crying deep inside with tears falling down his cheeks……at the time when Chris Gardner and his smart kid Chris Jr. were resting for a night in a TOILET……hopeless situation indeed. Just imagine such a scene has created a memorable imprint in my childs’ mind which made him aske to search Google after watching the movie to find out if Chris Jr. grew up better………. I just searched Google for Chris Gardner and astonishingly it has cheered my kid watching Chris Jr. images along with the real Chris Gardner and Will Smith -actor (kid who acted in the movie….as Will Smith’s son…….and I found he realy is Will Smith’s son….).
What a wonderful TRUE Story………..Awesome and Inspirational even for Kids. After I’ve showed the images in Google and explained him that that teh movie was based on a real story - my son KISSED me gently and said Goodnight………………… Really it was a great Weekend begun………..I wanted to take my son to an outing……..which I’ve missed for many months……………..not able to understand what the value of LIFE and SUCCESS meant……..IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
